Back from the Artic: VRA + ARLIS/NA Conference Review

So, I realized the issue with my original "Back from ARLIS/NA" post. I had made myself a clever list of blog post topics I wanted to write about in the coming weeks. By doing this, when I went back and edited or completed them, the published date was the date of the original draft, thus explaining why the post did not show up where I expected it to. I have changed the publication date of my original post it is available in the proper date, in its entirety (there may be some repeating, as I thought I had lost this post all together!)

I'm back!!! I arrived back home in the gritty city of Pittsburgh on Monday evening. It's almost strange to write that Pittsburgh is where I call home. Originally from Houston, Texas, and only living in the 'burgh for almost nine months, I still feel as if Texas is my home. And that I have to let everyone know that I am not from Pittsburgh even though I reside there now and plan to do so more the foreseen future. I was faced with this dilemma throughout the conference in Minneapolis. Somehow, I was able to get out in conversation with everyone that I met my complex back history of my locale and hometown history. This retelling of my city-history actually played in my favor as conference goers remembered me as the "girl-from-Texas-who-now-lives-in-Pittsburgh."

The conference was a great networking opportunity as well as an opportunity to learn about new research, technology, and products in the art librarianship field. I attended many sessions, working groups, meetings, and workshop.

I hope to discuss a few highlights of the conference on my blog in the following weeks, including the ARTstor User Group, the use of the SCHED scheduler, and the effectiveness of "traditional networking" and technology.

Keep checking for updates and refreshing that RSS feed!
